 my girlfriend knew things could be better

 so we packed everything and headed out in bad weather

 new york! new york!

 cigar snoke and champagne corks

 rich affluent people

 mixing and minglin

 stomping and singin

 glitter and sometimes sadmess

 fireworks and even tragedy

 she kept sayin we gonna make it

 we gonna make it!!

 and we did

 the 1920's

 cab calloway and poetic gestures by Countee Cullen and A Langston Hughes

 alaine leroi locke writing the news

 sweating like hogs

 dodging the vicous dogs

 my mind still on harlem.
