I saw Orion, the Hunter,
Falling from the sky
As spring approached,
My apple trees in bloom;
Reaching out his arm
To catch himself
Beyond the distant mountains;
And bright Sirius, the Dog Star,
Yapping at his heels
Across the infinite meadow
Vast above my front door.
The stars more numerous
Than all the grains of sand
On all the beaches here on Earth,
Or so astronomers claim
Though I have my doubts,
Since which did they count first:
The sand or the stars.
