I am but the tubes which worm through my frame,
A parcel of food in the spider’s thread.
I’m the soft-spoken beeps os strange machines;
Uttered for muted, reluctant organs.
I am the statistics on bedside charts,
Which seem at first to betray signs of life
But exist in truth for themselves alone.
I am a monument to medicine’s
Arrogance: that all which can be done should.
I am the meat in the butcher’s window.
