I was referring to the line -- "I can see how 'outsiders' may
want to avoid our message, our lifestyle". No disrepect intended
on your belief system (I don't know what it is.), your friends,
or 'how you really are' (poor choice of words on my part).
However, I do think it's important to try to see yourself and
your friends as others see you and try to relate that in poetry.
Even though my word choice doesn't always show it, I see all
poetry as a fictive exercise (this can get me into trouble
sometimes). But, I think it is a way, a tool, to discuss ideas,
imagery, or structure without taking these things so personally.
I see poetry, not as a way to show what I'm feeling, but as a
way to transmit feeling, thoughts, beauty etc. to other people.
I enjoyed your poem because 'your moment of disgust' seemed a
moment of not seeing the whole picture (can any of us?) but of
seeing things from a different angle. I enjoyed reading it.
Thanks.
