Why Can't I Find Any Superheroes?
Feel the pressure of another day
in red tights, and wonder
why the man knocking at
your door only wants to sell
toasters that
eat your bread
before
it comes up.
Your child cries to you,
wanting to find his ticket for
the Circus
of Death,
but you don't give in.
Instead you listen and try to fight the
rhythmic beating of the war drums as they
induce the feelings
of indifference that permeate
a world of hippies where “Peace!” is the
last roll call of the damned.
But it makes no difference, because no one is
safe from this flower power menace,
at least not until the
harm is undone by
the last generation
of superheroes.
May we all give our thanks to the
Space Cowboy
as he flies
like an eagle
into the sunset, leaving us alone
to remember the legends
that our parents once
danced to.
