Why Can't I Walk through the Closed Door?
You try and untangle yourself from the
machine's cords and
listen to the laugh
as you fail.
Not everyone can see the
picture that explains the
secrets the wind whispers to us
as we sleep,
but at least some of us try
to climb that last stairway.
No one seems to be arriving in heaven anymore though.
You can watch as the water runs uphill,
but don't question; rather,
simply do your laundry and be content
with having a clean pair of pants to wear tomorrow
instead of knowing the
answers to the mysteries
the crumbling statue we live
in poses to us.
It seems as if no one ever wants to lift the needle
on the turntable
that is playing the same broken
record we always listen to.
Why?
Perhaps because the only people that care are
the ones who ponder pointless questions
like where the river get its gas from or who
are asleep
in the vault, waiting
for the safe deposit box to burn.
Whatever the reason though,
the switch, laying in pieces on the floor, finally broke, and
no more haikus will ever come from
this land.
